Mohammed Alatar’s The Iron Wall takes its name from a 1923 essay by the revisionist Zionist leader Vladimir Jabotinsky, who counseled that the European Jewish colonial project in Palestine could succeed “only under the protection of a power that is independent of the native population—behind an IRON WALL, which the native population cannot breach.” The film documents the history and growth of Israel’s illegal colonies in the Occupied Territories, and reveals how Israel’s construction of its Separation Wall helps secure the settlements as permanent and irreversible facts on the ground. The film warns of the effect of these settlements on the possibility of peace and the future of the region. All showings will be held at Black Sheep Books, 5 State Street, Montpelier.
